Through drought, famine, false prophecy, and approaching judgment, Jeremiah carries the sorrow of a people who have rejected the fountain of living waters.
Yet these chapters also contain enduring words of faith and hope. Jeremiah declares that God’s words were the joy and rejoicing of his heart. He looks ahead to the nations coming to the Lord, and he contrasts those who trust in human strength with those who trust in God—like a tree planted beside the waters, whose leaves remain green even in drought.
